Bradford has a large South Asian population and a strong tradition of families caring for their elders at home. Much of what we arrange sits alongside that rather than replacing it — a few hours so a daughter can work, or company during the day when the house is empty. Matching for language, food and faith is a common request and one worth making early.
A great deal of the housing is back-to-back and through terraces with steep internal stairs and no downstairs toilet. If getting upstairs is becoming difficult, ask the council about an occupational therapy assessment before you spend money on adaptations — the assessment is free and often unlocks equipment at no cost.
Anyone can ask their council for a care needs assessment, whatever their savings, and it costs nothing. Under the Care Act 2014 the council must carry one out where someone appears to need care and support. A separate financial assessment decides who pays.
In Bradford this is handled by City of Bradford Metropolitan District Council.
In England, capital above £23,250 means funding your own care; below £14,250 your capital is disregarded and only income counts. Between the two, councils assume £1 a week of income for every £250 of capital.

No. Witho introduces helpers for practical support — shopping, company, lifts, housework, admin. Helpers do not provide personal care, give medication or carry out clinical tasks, which keeps the service simple, affordable and outside CQC regulation.
Every helper is identity-checked, address-verified, reference-checked, DBS checked through Care Check, and interviewed by our team before any introduction is made.
